ALASKA BOUND

After being told by numerous people that we should travel into Alaska with something lighter and smaller than our 5th wheel. We decided to follow their advise and were able to compromise and travel real economically.

VEGREVILLE, ALBERTA

we arrived to Grandview, Manitoba on June 9th and visited my parents until June 13th. We stayed at Vegreville on June 14th at the Elks Park, a municipal park. At this location was the world's largest PYSANKA , easter egg in Ukrainian.
this large egg in25.7 feet long, 18 feet wide, stands 31 feet high, weights 3,000 pounds and rests on 27,000 pound base of concrete and steel and turns in the wind like a weather vane.

From here, we are going to Edmonton which is about 100kms.

Pictured Rocks Boat Cruise

On June 6,2007 we were back on the road after spending evening of June 3 to morning of June 6th at Dan and Chris's place in Newberry, Michigan.

We decided to take a approx. 2 hr. boat cruise on lake Superior to tour the pictured rocks which was at Munising , Michigan. The tour was very interesting and fun. We even had the seagull following for free hand -outs.

for more on Pictured Rocks go to the following web site www.picturedrocks.com

Lighthouse

This lighthouse is not operational. One interesting tid-bit was that at one time a lighthouse keeper lived here with his wife and 12 children. A full house

Miner,s castle and others

This rock formation is called Miner's Castle. The others I do not recall

Chapel Cove

This one area the cruise boat was able to go right into the cove which was named Chapel Cove

More pictures of the cruise

The different minerals give the rocks their different colours and because of the rocks are made of limestone , the wind and the waves create different shapes

June 2,2007 ---We are at Brigden, Ontario visiting with Stew's children and grand children and we will be heading to northern Michigan and visit with people we met in Florida this past winter for a couple of days. Then on to Grandview, Manitoba with stops along the way that may seem interesting. Once in Manitoba we will be visiting my parents. My dad will be 90 years young on August 12th and my mom is 86 years young. My dad still lives at home but my mom is in a nursing home residence. While at Wildwood Golf and RV Resort we were without Internet connection at our trailer for the whole month of May . Thus we were without a telephone . That was difficult and the only way we were able to use our wi-fi phone was to walk to the park office. Having the conveniences at our finger tips has made us a bit lazy especially after we have settled down for the evening after a long walk with Soozee. I guess this is a test for what will be in store for us this summer as we motor on to Alaska after we visit with my parents. We will be gone for three months . We are looking forward to this adventure . While we were at home for the month of May it was good to see all the children and grandchildren all 22 of them and we still have 2 more in British Columbia to visit this summer and 2 we weren't able to see. It sure is surprising to see the younger ones , they seem to grow up s-o-o fast. Whenever I am able to (that is if I can get unto the computer) I will blog our journey especially Alaska.
